Efficient and safe coating on an industrial scale – Christopher Schneider, Q-Layers
Today, coatings on storage tanks, wind
turbines, and other industrial structures, coatings are typically applied
manually. While rolling is very time-intensive, manual spraying results in
overspray, creating a hazard for both workers and the environment. Furthermore,
this increases paint waste and, thus, costs.
Qlayers’ patented spray shielding allows to
coat with virtually no overspray (<1%), in contrast to manual spraying with
overspray of 30% and even more in windy conditions. Besides saving paint and
making the process more environmentally friendly, this enables to spray coat
even at areas where otherwise rolling is required due to legal restrictions. Furthermore, automating the process
allows to conduct most coating works from safe ground, reducing hazards for
workers.
The unique spray technology can be integrated
in different actuation systems, such as a crawler, a robotic arm with an AGV or
a CNC system to match the individual requirements of each use case. This allows
to coat all kinds of structures, such as storage tanks, container ships, wind
towers, blades, and more.
